Willie Kirk, the head coach of the Leicester women’s team, will not be guiding his squad in today’s encounter because, according to The Guardian, an internal investigation was started because of concerns about his relationships with the players.
The person who provided the information claimed that Kirk had an affair with a member of his team. A spokesman of the club said:
“Willie Kirk is assisting the club with internal processes, the results of which will be determined in due course.”
The Leicester women’s squad, under the direction of U-18 team coach Steven Kirby and assistant coach Jennifer Foster, will play Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals today.
After becoming the football director for the team in 2022, Willie Kirk succeeded Lydia Bedford as head coach.
Given that Kirk coached the under-17 squad at Livingston, Scotland, after starting his coaching career there as a coach for players under the age of 14, the Leicester procedure may cast doubt on his prior roles.
He became an under-17 coach at Hibernian in 2009, and he took over the women’s team in 2010.
He became a member of Manchester United’s coaching staff in 2018 and took over Everton in December of the same year. Before moving to Leicester in October 2021, he resigned from his job.
