The New Orleans Saints have secured the future of their defensive core by signing veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu to a generous two-year contract extension worth $13.75 million.

This move, first reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and later confirmed by the team, secures Mathieu’s spot on the Saints’ roster through the 2025 season.
The contract, which includes a $10 million guarantee, effectively precludes Mathieu from entering free agency and solidifies his position as one of New Orleans’ most valued players.
In discussing his decision to stay with the Saints, Mathieu acknowledged his delight with the squad and his desire to continue contributing to its success.
“I like the scenario I am in. I’ve moved forward in the system. For me, that’s exciting,” Mathieu said.
“Where I’m at in my life today, I love being in New Orleans, love being around family, loving being in the community.”
Mathieu remains among the finest players in the NFL.
Despite approaching the age of 32, Mathieu has continued to perform admirably over the last two seasons, receiving acclaim for his regular contributions to the Saints’ defense.
Mathieu has cemented his status as one of the league’s finest safeties, with overall defensive grades of 81.2 or higher in both 2022 and 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.
Mathieu’s return to the Saints in 2022 was a homecoming for the Louisiana native, who previously shined at LSU before pursuing his NFL career.
