The Patriots lost a great quarterback to the transfer portal, with…
The New England Patriots will trade quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Jaguars are reportedly offering the Patriots a sixth-round draft selection in exchange for Jones.
Jones, who was born and bred in Jacksonville, will have a fresh start following a rocky start to his NFL career with New England.
The deal will not be finalized until the new NFL season begins on Wednesday, and Jones must pass a physical first.
Four clubs were in the running for Jones, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, but the Jaguars had the only real offer as of Saturday, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
Jones was selected with the 15th choice in the 2021 NFL draft after winning a national title with Alabama at the end of the 2020 season, although he has battled most of his professional career.
This season alone, he was benched multiple times and finished with 2,120 throwing yards, 10 touchdown passes, and 12 interceptions.
He went 2-9 in 11 starts, and the Patriots concluded the season with a 4-13 record, finishing last in the AFC East.
