That didn’t take long. With a few weeks left in spring training, one of the Brewers’ spring training camp battles has already been determined, according to skipper Pat Murphy.

Brice Turang, a second-year player and 2018 first-round pick, has secured the starting second base position.

Now, this isn’t all that surprising, as Turang was the Crew’s primary second baseman the previous season and should have been a finalist for the Gold Glove.

Despite struggling at the plate for most of the season, Turang showed some improvement in the latter half of the season, and Murphy feels that Turang is ready to take a “quantum leap” in his second season.

Turang wasn’t assured a starting job because the Brewers brought in a lot of competition in the infield this spring.

Sal Frelick has been gaining infield experience, prospect Tyler Black might play there, and returning players Owen Miller and Andruw Monasterio have all been making noise in camp. Prospect Joey Ortiz, Oliver Dunn, and Christian Arroyo have also been making noise.
