Twitter praises Lamar Jackson’s historic multimillion-dollar contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
The league’s tweet refers to Lamar Jackson as “the new highest-paid player in the NFL.”

For approximately a week, Jalen Hurts was the highest-paid NFL player in history. That is, until Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens stepped in and secured the richest deal ever recorded within the franchise.

Yesterday (April 27), as the 2023 NFL Draft began, Jackson, who has been in the league since 2018, stole the show. According to CNN, the 26-year-old extended his contract for another five years for a record $260 million.

His record-breaking deal includes a guaranteed $185 million. What makes his agreement even more astonishing is that the quarterback apparently negotiated his contract without the assistance of an agent to whom he would have to pay a fee, instead allowing his mother to handle the paperwork. Jackson appeared to confirm the reports by uploading a clip of a sports show discussing the matter and added, “My agent.”

Twitter could not be more proud. The league’s tweet refers to the Florida native as “the new highest-paid player in the NFL.” Another source explained it simply: “NFL superstar QB Lamar Jackson fired his agent [and] hired his mother to negotiate his contract.”He is now the highest-paid quarterback, having signed a $260 million [five-year] deal. He skipped the 3 [percent] agent charge and paid his mother $7.8 million. “Keep it in the family.” Another person recalled what the baller went through to get to where he is now. “Five years after sitting in the green room with his mom, watching the picks go by as he fell in the draft, Lamar Jackson signed a deal to give his family generational wealth…” It’s hard not to become emotional. What a player. “What a story,” one fan remarked, beside a photo from the 2018 draft.
