The 2024 season will mark Mike McCarthy’s fifth season with the Dallas Cowboys. He was recruited by general manager and owner Jerry Jones in 2020, and McCarthy has led the team to three consecutive postseason appearances. McCarthy has one year left on his contract.
Following three consecutive 12-win playoff seasons, McCarthy’s team is the first to miss out on a conference title game, and the Cowboys became the first No. 2 seed to lose since the 14-team structure was implemented in 2020.
However, McCarthy will have another opportunity to put an end to the Cowboys’ nearly three-decade skid without a long postseason run, as confirmed by general manager and owner Jerry Jones.
“I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach,” he said in a statement.
“Mike has the highest regular-season winning percentage of any head coach in Cowboys history, and we will dedicate ourselves, in partnership with him, to translating that into reaching our post season goals.
” McCarthy has one year remaining on his contract, which will be his fifth with the club. Jones’ statement made no mention of an extension.
