Justin Fields’ trade has disappointed Bears supporters, but they are trying to remain positive.
CHICAGO(CBS) — Fans were angry, unhappy, and depressed Saturday after learning that the Bears had dealt quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, the fans remained optimistic that the deal would be a positive step forward.
Fields’ visage was still flashing across the side of Soldier Field in a player montage on Saturday night, one hour after the trade was announced.
After three seasons with the Bears, Fields will be traded to the Steelers for a sixth-round pick in 2025.
In 2021, the Bears moved up from No. 20 to No. 11 to select Fields from Ohio State University.
Fans visiting from Ohio, such as Kevin Ashmore and his son, experienced a rapid and abrupt transformation.
“I told [my son] this morning that this is where Justin Fields plays, and then later today, we found out he got traded,” Ashmore said outside Soldier Field. “Just broke the news to him.”
Ashmore’s kid also stated that he was “depressed, because, well, Justin Fields and C.G. Stroud are probably my favorite two quarterbacks.” “I’m mad.”
Cassius was seen outside Soldier Field with his older sister, Nia Dawkins, who is hopeful about the team’s prospects.
“I would say it’s a little sad, but hopefully the next one is better,” Dawkins was quoted as saying.
With Fields’ departure, the Bears have paved the way for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, whom they will almost certainly choose first overall this spring.
Cassius is a fan of Justin Fields, but he also admires another player, who died long before he was born but is still possibly the most renowned Bear of all. It’s probably obvious who that is.
Payton’s jersey hangs with other Bears stars in the sports memorabilia section of Pizano’s near Wintrust Arena. Staff at the eatery, located at 2106 S. Indiana Ave., report that Bears fans continue to show up regardless of the alterations.
“No, not really – so if they’re losing, winning, we still get a good crowd here, you know?” According to Eddie Mendoza, general manager of Pizano’s South Loop. “We still have great fans that come and support us, support the team.”
