Owner of the Carolina Panthers David Tepper is facing criticism after it was seen on camera that he appeared to throw a drink at Jacksonville Jaguars supporters during Sunday’s 26-0 loss at EverBank Stadium. The NFL may now sanction him.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Tepper may be suspended and subject to a “substantial fine” as a result of his behavior.
Social media was agitated when Tepper was shown in a video appearing to hurl his drink at Jaguars supporters from his opulent box during the game.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy stated, “We are aware of the video and have no further comment at this time.”
Tepper and the Panthers have not yet addressed the situation, but it’s reasonable to ask when one could given the possibility of a fine and/or suspension.
The Panthers’ 2024 first-round pick, which will be No. 1 overall, is being delivered to the Chicago Bears in response to the Panthers acquiring the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft to choose quarterback Bryce Young.
Young still has plenty of time to make a difference, but with Tepper leading the way, things in Carolina seem even more dire.
The Panthers haven’t had a winning season since the owner took over in 2018, and it doesn’t appear like there will be much chance for the team to turn things around anytime soon.
Tepper is understandably angry with Carolina’s struggles, as the team has an NFL-worst 2-14 record.
Young hasn’t been the guy Carolina had hoped he would be when it drafted him; in 15 games, he has completed 59.7% of his throws for 2,783 yards and 11 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.
