After the trade news, Justin Fields and his teammates thanked each other on social media for their three-year partnership.
Chicago said goodbye to Justin Fields on social media, and he did the same to them.
Pittsburgh’s departure to play for the Steelers was both emotional and dignified, with minimal discussion of how little the team received in exchange for their 2021 first-round draft pick.
Fields thanked his teammates as well:
“I can’t thank the city of Chicago enough for welcoming and embracing me. Thank you to the entire Bears organization and ownership for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a legendary franchise. Most importantly, I’d like to thank all of my brothers with whom I played. You all were the reason I approached each day in the manner I did. I can’t thank you all enough for what you’ve meant to me over the last three years, despite the ups and downs. I wish each of you nothing but success. Ready for the next chapter!”
GM Ryan Poles commended Fields for his efforts in a statement released by the organization.
“We have engaged in multiple trade conversations in recent weeks and believe trading Justin at this time to Pittsburgh is what is best for both Justin and the Bears,” Poles went on to say. “We met with Justin today to inform him about the deal and why it was beneficial to us as a club. We want to congratulate him for his hard effort, leadership, and contributions to our club and community over the previous three years, and we wish him a long and successful NFL career.”
Former teammate Justin Jones, who signed with Atlanta this week, remarked, “Damn, bro, I wish you had a fair shake over there.” “Cheers to new beginnings.”
Defensive end DeMarcus Walker stated, “Today isn’t easy, but it’s business.”
DJ Moore, who had fought for Fields’ retention, does not use social media much but basically said what Walker did: “Business is Business.”
Jaquan Brisker appeared unhappy about it. “Don’t talk to me,” he posted.
Bears supporters’ reactions ranged from frustration at Fields’ decision to move on to Caleb Williams to gratitude for the athletic ability they seen throughout the previous three years.
And some are just weary from too many years seeing the same quarterback situation repeated over and over.
