Jordan De Goey, a prominent player for Collingwood, has been handed a three-match suspension for pushing West Coast rookie Elijah Hewett during last Saturday’s game at Optus Stadium.

The chairman of the Tribunal, Jeff Gleeson, stated, “This was another head injury that could have been prevented.” “A three-match ban is an appropriate sanction for this careless, rough conduct.”

At the AFL Tribunal, Jordan De Goey was suspended.
After being accused of rough play, the midfield player’s case was forwarded directly to the AFL Tribunal, where it was heard for a mere 20 minutes on Tuesday.

The Collingwood star was facing a potential four-match penalty, but he was able to avoid that with a three-match sentence after the Tribunal determined that the contact was the consequence of split-second contact and that De Goey had shown sincere regret for the hit.

“We do not consider the matter requires a higher sanction than the three weeks base sanction that applies for this grading,” Gleeson stated.

In the opening frame of the Magpies’ 63-point victory, De Goey gave young Eagle Hewett a bump that left his opponent high.

Hewett left the field right away to receive a concussion diagnosis, and he will follow brain injury procedures for at least a month.

De Goey was consequently reprimanded for rough behavior by the AFL Match Review panel, who assessed his actions as negligent, significant impact, and high contact.

“I felt a great deal of regret,” the Collingwood player admitted to the tribunal.

“I don’t go out there to play dirty football, so it was disheartening to see someone get hurt like that. Your first concern should be for Elijah, and your second should be making sure he’s well.
