Gary Neville responds to Nottingham Forest points deduction and makes Chelsea comment
Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Gary Neville comments on the Reds’ four points deduction by the Premier League
Gary Neville has given his verdict on Nottingham Forest’s points deduction.
The Premier League charged the Reds for breaching Profitability and Sustainability rules (PSR) earlier this year. As a result, Forest were docked four points after by an independent commission with confirmation coming earlier this week.
Forest became the second club to be docked points this season, after Everton saw an initial points deduction of ten reduced to six points. The initial punishment, handed out in November, was appealed by the Toffees.
Forest signed 23 players after they were promoted to the Premier League in 2022, and another seven additions followed in January. A further 14 players were added last summer taking the total number of signings since promotion to 43.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast, Neville compared Forest’s spending to Chelsea, who have gone beyond the “1billion mark in just three windows. Forest, meanwhile, have spent close to £300million.
“Nottingham Forest signed 20-odd players [last season],” he said. “I know that ten players left the previous season, but if it doesn’t look right, it’s usually not right.
“It’s like with Chelsea and their spending over the summer, it didn’t look right and now they’ve got issues with it. It’s madness what Forest were doing.”
