Texas Longhorns basketball SUSPENDS its coach without pay after…

Felony charge against former Texas coach Chris Beard dropped two months following arrest - CBSSports.com

Following his arrest on Monday for allegedly “strangling a family member,” Texas Longhorns basketball coach Chris Beard was placed on administrative leave without pay.

The school issued a statement later that day stating that Beard would not be working with the team for the foreseeable future.

“The University takes matters of interpersonal violence involving members of its community seriously.

Given the information available, The University has suspended Chris Beard from his position as head coach of Men’s Basketball and will withhold his pay until further notice,” the statement read.

On Monday, Austin police were summoned to his residence after a lady reported that the 49-year-old had “assaulted and strangled” her.

After posting a $10,000 bond, he was let out of Travis County Jail. As per the Travis County Clerk’s office, an arrest affidavit is not available at this time.

The Austin American-Statesman was informed by Beard’s lawyer, Perry Minton, that his client “is 100 percent innocent of these charges.”

“He wasn’t supposed to be arrested,” Minton stated to the publication. The complainant requests that all charges be dropped and that he be released right away. It really is unfathomable.
