Coventry City have announced the signing of defender Luis Binks, the defender joining on a season-long loan from Bologna.

The centre-back becomes the eighth new arrival of the summer for Mark Robins’ men as they look to go one better than the play-off final last season. He comes in as a potential replacement for Callum Doyle.

The Man City defender spent last season on loan at the Coventry Building Society Stadium, but has now signed on loan for newly-relegated Leicester City.

The arrival of Binks adds to the defensive options available to Robins ahead of the first game of the season against Leicester.

Here is what we know about the centre-back and his footballing journey so far, ahead of a season in the Championship with the Sky Blues.

Who is Luis Binks?

Binks is a 21-year-old England U19 international who plays at centre-back for Italian side Bologna. He joined the Serie A club from Canadian side Montreal in the summer of 2020 after just six months with the club.

The defender started his career with Tottenham, but never made a first team appearance for the club. He played 14 times for the U21s and 30 times for the U18s during his time in North London.

Speaking to the Daily Mail back in 2020, the defender explained his decision to leave Tottenham in order to join Montreal, where he was managed by Thierry Henry. “

My debut here there were 30,000 fans,’ he said. “Last year, for the Under-23s, you’d be away to Derby on a Thursday night in front of 50 people.

“The crowd, the occasion, it motivates you, you want more of it. You can still learn playing Under 23s, but not as much as this.

“When Jadon Sancho went to Dortmund and did so well, it really inspired me. So I thought, “Yeah, why not?”. It felt like a no-brainer.”
