John Calipari announced he is stepping away from the University of Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY — University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Coach John Calipari has announced he will be stepping away from the university.

In a video Calipari posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said he has been thinking a lot about his time at Kentucky, but the program is ready to hear another voice. “We loved it here, but we think it’s time for us to step away and step away completely from the program,” said Calipari.

He said he and his family are discussing several opportunities that have been made available to them.

Calipari went on to thank the players and their families he’s coached. “They gave all of us everything they had on the basketball court and off the basketball court. And I’m indebted forever until the wheels fall off.”

He also thanked the staff, friends, and the fans that helped the team to become so successful.
