Virginia has its first transfer portal casualty of the offseason. Redshirt freshman wing Leon Bond III has entered the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.
A 6’5″ wing from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Bond came to UVA as part of the highly-touted recruiting class of 2022 that included Isaac McKneely, Ryan Dunn, and Isaac Traudt.
While both McKneely and Dunn played significant minutes as first years and blossomed into starters as sophomores, both Traudt and Bond redshirted the 2022-2023 season.
Traudt entered the transfer portal after one year and returned to his home state of Nebraska by transferring to Creighton. One year later, it’s a similar outcome for Bond.
Over the course of two years at the Virginia men’s basketball program, Leon Bond III played just 296 total minutes across 24 game appearances.
His time on the floor was limited to garbage minutes in ACC play, although that still resulted in a decent amount of playing time given the number of blowout losses the Cavaliers suffered this season.
Bond averaged 12.3 minutes and 4.1 points per game, but never got a chance to play meaningful basketball in his time at Virginia.
