Browns Coach Kevin Stefanski Sends a Clear Message About Baker Mayfield.
The 2021 season has been a rollercoaster for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns. Finally, on Saturday afternoon, the postseason hopes were dashed by their starting quarterback’s awful performance.

Mayfield had four interceptions in the Browns’ 24-22 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Christmas. Three of those picks came in the first half, and the final one came in the fourth quarter when Cleveland was driving and had a chance to take the lead.

Mayfield’s performance was by far his worst of the season, giving some in Cleveland more reason to move on from the former No. 1 overall choice. However, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is still not listening to people who question his quarterback.

After the Browns’ third loss in four games, Stefanski stated that he did not consider benching Mayfield at halftime and will not make a quarterback change for the remainder of the 2021 season.

“He’s our starting quarterback,” Stefanski told ESPN’s Jake Trotter of Mayfield.

Mayfield was quick to address his own failings following Saturday’s loss, which lowered the Browns to 7-8 on the season.

“I hurt this team,” Mayfield told Trotter. “That’s the most disappointing thing for me because I thought our defense performed admirably against a really, really strong attack. Turning over the ball and giving them further opportunities can lead to their success. That’s simply who they are.”

With only two games remaining, the Browns will be hard pressed to make the playoffs. That means Cleveland will have to start seriously considering its quarterback situation.

Most significantly, Stefanski and his staff must choose whether the Browns intend to continue with Mayfield or go in a new way in 2022.
