The Creighton Men’s Basketball team added its second high-profile transfer in the last week as Texas Tech guard Richard “Pop” Isaacs signed to play with the Bluejays. Isaacs will have two years of eligibility remaining at CU.
Isaacs was a Third Team All-Big 12 selection and NABC All-District Second Team choice last season after leading Texas Tech with 15.8 points per game while starting all 34 games.
He finished sixth in the Big 12 in overall scoring, and his 16.1 points per game in Big 12 play was fourth-most.
The 6-foot-2 guard also led the Red Raiders with 73 three-pointers, including 13 games with three trifectas or more, and had 26 games of 10 points or more.
The Las Vegas native averaged 11.5 points per game as a freshman in 2022-23, when he earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team accolades and started 24-of-25 appearances.
That included 13 points in a team-high 35 minutes against Creighton in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, when he made 4-of-5 three-point attempts.
“We are thrilled to add Pop to our backcourt,” said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. “His ability to score in a variety of ways and create for his teammates will be a seamless fit in our offense.
In addition, his ability to defend at high level is very impressive. We look forward to getting him on campus soon!”
Isaacs joins Arizona State transfer Jamiya Neal as well as incoming freshmen Ty Davis, Larry Johnson and Jackson McAndrew as newcomers for 2024-25.
Creighton finished the 2023-24 season with a 25-10 record, matching its most wins in a season since 2016-17.
The Bluejays made their third trip to the Sweet 16 in the past four seasons and were one of three teams to defeat eventual national champion Connecticut. CU was ranked 10th in the year-end USA Today Coaches poll and 13th in the year-end Associated Press poll.
