Latest Nottingham Forest news as January transfer window now closed for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds
The January transfer window has now come to a close for Nottingham Forest.
The Reds confirmed two deadline day additions, bringing in young striker Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan from Sporting and goalkeeper Matz Sels on a permanent deal from Strasbourg. They had already announced versatile attacker Gio Reyna’s loan move from Borussia Dortmund.
The final day of the window also saw some departures from the City Ground. Midfielder Orel Mangala was the most notable exit as he joined Lyon on loan. Meanwhile, winger Alex Mighten joined Port Vale on loan, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made a permanent switch to Cardiff City and highly-rated youngster Brandon Aguilera linked up with Bristol Rovers on loan.
Clubs had until 11pm on Thursday to complete their business. However, some windows around the world remain open so there is the potential for further departures in the coming days.
Nevertheless, Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo now knows the squad he will have to work with for the rest of the season. The Reds’ focus will now be on climbing up the Premier League table. Attention will turn to Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth, when the club’s January signings could get their first taste of action for the club.

Nuno now knows the squad he has to work with for the second half of the season. All eyes on Bournemouth now…
Nottingham Forest youngster Brandon Aguilera has completed a deadline day switch to Bristol Rovers.
The 20-year-old will spend the second half of the season on loan with the League One side. It will be seen as a good opportunity for him to get first-team minutes under his belt.
Aguilera is viewed as a bright prospect at the City Ground. However, regular game time has proved hard to come by on the banks of the Trent.
Goalkeeper Matz Sels has become Nottingham Forest’s third signing of the January transfer window.
The Belgian has made the move from Strasbourg and has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract. The Reds are said to have paid in the region of £5 million (6-7m euros) to secure his services.
Earlier in January, Forest’s plan was to stick with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos as their No.1 and No.2 after both joined on permanent deals last summer. However, neither has particularly convinced and the club’s stance changed as the end of the window neared.
Forest youngster Julian Larsson has joined Morecambe on loan for the rest of the season.
The Reds say: “The 22-year-old has been a regular for our B Team this season, scoring in Forest’s 2-1 victory over Accrington Stanley which helped secure qualification to the knockout stages in The Reds’ first season in the competition. Morecambe, managed by Ged Brannan, currently sit 15th in Sky Bet League Two. We wish Julian all the best for his time out on loan.”
