The VCU men’s basketball team on Thursday garnered a key commitment from a potential major contributor out of the transfer portal, as University of Texas Arlington guard Phillip Russell announced his intention to play for the Rams and coach Ryan Odom.
After Norfolk State guard Jamarii Thomas last week committed to VCU before flipping to South Carolina a few days later, it must be stressed that Russell verbally committed, and VCU Athletics has not yet announced an official signing.
But should he sign and join the Rams’ 2024-25 roster, Russell is a strong addition for Odom and Co.
