The Adelaide Crows finally confirmed their new head coach for 2020, but the excitement was all too much for the club’s media department.
Matthew Nicks has been appointed Adelaide’s head coach, the club has finally confirmed.
The GWS senior assistant coach has signed on as Don Pyke’s replacement on a three-year deal that locks him in to coach the Crows until the end of the 2022 season.
The big reveal was thrown off the rails somewhat when the club’s social media department appeared to get a little too excited in the moments leading up to the announcement, posting a message on the club’s official Twitter account that was clearly meant to be a personal, internal message.
“Hey mate, he should be here in about 10. Can you grab a polo from crowmania?,” the club’s Twitter account posted.
Four minutes later the club confirmed Nicks had won the race for the coaching job with a series of tweets celebrating his appointment.
Full credit to the club too, for owning the unfortunate blunder.
