Three thoughts on the outgoing transfers for ECU baseball

Some thoughts after the departure of Zach Root, Bristol Carter, and others from ECU baseball.

East Carolina has seen more than a handful of players transfer out since the conclusion of the season this past Monday. The Pirates wrapped up the campaign 46-17, falling to Evansville in the championship final, 6-5, of the Greenville regional.

Here are some thoughts on the latest news, and what it means going forward for ECU baseball.

ECU outfielder Bristol Carter enters transfer portal

The All-AAC Rookie Team selection is heading to the transfer portal.

East Carolina has lost one of its most talented young players, as freshman outfielder Bristol Carter has entered the NCAA transfer portal, sources confirm to Hoist The Colours and 247Sports.

Carter arrived on campus this past summer after turning down money in the Major League Baseball Draft and had a strong freshman season for ECU, hitting .346 with seven doubles, a triple, two homers, and 31 RBIs, primarily playing left field. He added four stolen bases and ranked second on the team with seven sacrifice bunts. Carter played in 56 games, making 46 starts. His playing time did start to reduce a bit down the stretch, and he finished the season 6-for-24 (.250) with only one extra base hit over his final 12 appearances in a Pirate uniform.

Known for his speed and athleticism, Carter only attempted five stolen bases on the year. He struck out just 23 times but his 12 walks also ranked lowest among ECU regulars, as he often put the ball in play early in counts.
