Wolves make their first signing of the summer with a four-year contract
Latest Wolverhampton Wanderers news from BirminghamLive: club activates option to make Tommy Doyle’s loan from Manchester City permanent.
Wolves have signed loan midfielder Tommy Doyle from Manchester City, with an option to make his stay at Molineux permanent.
The 22-year-old has spent the season on loan from the champions, but has now signed a four-year contract that will keep him at Wolves until 2028, with the option for another two years.
Doyle, who made seven appearances for City after coming through the youth system, has played 30 games for Wolves this season as they aim for a mid-table finish in the Premier League.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs stated, “We’ve never seen Tommy as a player on loan, and he hasn’t acted like one. In his first year, he has steadily increased his playing time and importance, which I consider ideal. What he brings to our midfield is unique, so this was almost unavoidable. He believes in who we are as a club and what we are trying to build culturally within the group.
“He’s a fantastic player to have for what we’re trying to achieve off the pitch, and he gives us so much on the pitch, so he’s exactly the type of player I believe Wolves should sign.
“When you look at the type of players we like to sign as a football club, they haven’t reached their peak yet and have a lot more to offer.
“Tommy is only a fraction of the player he will become as he becomes more comfortable in the league and gains a better understanding of it. I’m very excited for both now and his future at Wolves.”
