Warrington Wolves confirm horror injury and rest two players for the Hull FC fixture.
This Friday night, the Wire will host Hull FC.
Warrington Wolves have made several changes to their 21-man squad that will face Hull FC at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night. The Wire will be without young half-back Leon Hayes, who has suffered a serious fracture dislocation in his ankle, and Sam Burgess will rest a couple of forwards for Friday night’s game.

Hayes, who had started Wire’s previous ten games, suffered the injury in their 17-12 loss to Salford Red Devils last Saturday and will have surgery this week. He is expected to miss the rest of the season, with the club confirming he will be absent for six months.

Josh Drinkwater is now expected to return to the side to partner George Williams, after Wire rejected Hull’s request for a loan move last month.

The club issued the following statement on Tuesday evening: “Leon Hayes has suffered a fracture dislocation of his ankle and will undergo surgery this week. The young halfback will be sidelined for about six months. Leon is in good spirits and grateful for all of the messages of support since Saturday. Leon, we’re with you through every step of your recovery.”

Burgess will also rest James Harrison and Jordan Crowther for the match, while winger Matty Ashton is still injured after missing the Salford game. However, Zane Musgrove will return to the Warrington side after recovering from an ankle injury. Max Wood has also been drafted in.

“There are a couple of guys out; Jordy Crowther and James Harrison will both be resting this week,” Burgess said in his pre-match press conference. “Matt Ashton is still not available. Jordy has a lot going on, and we just want to give him a break.

“They’ve both been playing above their weight for the past four or five weeks and doing an excellent job. They both have a couple of niggles, but nothing serious.”
The Wire defeated Hull 36-10 in February, with Fa’amanu Brown’s controversial red card being the most memorable moment. Hull, meanwhile, are expected to play Jake Trueman for the first time this season, having named the half-back to their 21-man squad.
